About a month ago, (yes, I am trying to play catch up with this blog!) I was fortunate enough to spend the weekend in Boston with 2 very dear friends of mine. Ann, Juliane, and I were partners in crime back in our college years. The three of us met while studying abroad for a semester in Sevilla, Spain. We jelled pretty much instantly and spent our time there studying (a little), meeting locals & other travelers, backpacking to surrounding cities and countries, and spending entirely too much money on Zara and Mango clothing:-)!

I could go on and on for hours but back to Boston. Jules and I had stayed in touch but had lost touch along the way with Ann. Surprisingly enough Jules and Ann both moved to Boston last year and ran into each other at a kids pool- of all the gin joints in all the world!! So….they “convinced” me to reunite with them in Boston for the weekend- I was stoked!

Having never been to Boston, I was itching to explore and just hang with my girls. I will say this much, I desperately need to visit there again….both to see them as well as to explore more- what a fun city!!

To put it out there from the start, let me admit that we did NOT make it to Cheers…..so sad, but just another excuse to go back:)! Pretty much the entire weekend was “girly”. We talked, we walked, we shopped, we drank, we indulged, we “spa’d” :-)….

Our home base was in a neighborhood called the North End. It was a cute cobblestone corner of Boston that looked so much like Europe. In fact, there is a huge Italian population in the North End. You MUST go there and when you do, do yourself a favor and grab a FRESHLY MADE cannoli at one of their ever popular bakeries- there are a few scattered throughout and all are heavenly. Words cannot even give this delicious treat justice……I inhaled it and loved every calorie!!

We spent quite a bit of time walking up and down the famous Newbury Street. What fun!! Here you will find tons of high end shops as well as unique boutiques scattered throughout. We happened upon an adorable such boutique called Alex and Ani– they sell customized bangle bracelets, necklaces, charms, and earrings. We fell IN LOVE and went wild buying unique bangles for ourselves. Of course we also each got 1 of the same bangles so we can always be reminded of our fun weekend together in Boston!

After our splurge, we were thirsty (haha) so we went in search of a fun little bistro to have lunch in. One of my favorite apps- UrbanSpoon took us to an awesome little Spanish Tapas restaurant right around the corner- perfect!!

Bar Lola was so authentically Spanish and took us back to our days in Sevilla. We ordered a (large) pitcher of Sangria to celebrate and each picked one of our favorite tapas from Spain- garlic prawns, meatballs, serrano ham, cheese, olives…..all delicious (especially the Sangria!)

Clearly we needed to walk that meal off…so off we went. We walked along the Freedom Trail for a while…which was actually pretty cool. I am just going to take a blurb from The Freedom Trail  website:

“The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile red-brick walking trail that leads you to 16 nationally significant historic sites, every one an authentic American treasure. Preserved and dedicated by the citizens of Boston in 1958, when the wrecking ball threatened, the Freedom Trail today is a unique collection of museums, churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship, and historic markers that tell the story of the American Revolution and beyond.”

After resting for a bit and getting all glammed up, we headed out for the night! Our restaurant of choice was Coppa. DELICIOUS!! A quaint, corner italian tapas style bistro. We toasted with Prosecco and stuffed ourselves with gourmet food:-).

We ended our night back in the North End at Ristorante Fiore for yet another pitcher of Sangria….it wasn’t as good as our first one at Bar Lola but it was fun nonetheless…

The following day we were exhausted!! So we did what any trio of girlfriends would do….we headed straight over to the Exhale Spa for some long overdue massages!! Wonderfully decadent:)

To end our trip together we dined nearby at the Neptune Oyster House….we had already gorged ourselves on Italian and Spanish so we finished it off with some good old Boston Lobster Rolls & Salads. We also feasted on delicious local oysters & micro brews. A perfect way to end a fabulous Girls weekend away…

Thank you Juliane & Ann- love you both and can’t wait to do it again!! xoxo
